Do I need a visa to work remotely in Italy?

Yes. If you are looking to live and work remotely in Italy, you are required to have proper work authorization. Some non-EU countries, including the United States, do not need a visa to enter Italy and can typically remain in Italy for up to 90 days without a visa.   • Accommodations. Proof of accommodations in Italy for the duration of your stay.

Can I work remotely in Italy as an American citizen?

U.S. nationals can visit Italy and other Schengen countries within the EU for a period of 90-days without a visa. This visa waiver program does not permit work authorization and you are not legally authorized to work remotely during this period.

In order to live and work remotely in Italy you should apply for the relevant visa that permits work authorization. The release of the Italian digital nomad visa will apply to most remote workers.
