Australia Federal Budget 2022-23: Immigration Highlights

The Australian Government has released the 2022-23 Federal Budget which marks the next stage in leading Australia's strong economy into the future. Below are the aspects of the Budget impacting immigration.

  • Migration Program planning level to remain at 160,000 for 2022/23
  • Skilled stream to account for a significant majority of this at 109,900 (70% of the permanent Migration Program)
  • $19.5M to the Global Australia Taskforce
  • 30% increase in Work and Holiday caps (11k extra spots)
  • Humanitarian program to remain at 13,750

Also for this current 2021/22 year, 10k spots from Partner visas are being re-distributed to skilled stream taking the ceiling from 79,600 to 89,600

Following on from #Budget2022, the Minister has confirmed that:

  • Skilled Stream will increase by 30k spots to 109,900 broken down by Employer Sponsored (30k), Skilled Independent (16,652), State & Territory Nominated (20k), Business Innovation & Investment (9.5k), Global Talent (8,448), Distinguished Talent (300).
  • Occupation lists to be reviewed and updated in early 2022-23
  • 50k spots for Family broken down by 6k for Parent visas, 500 for other, and Partner/Child at (40.5k and 3k respectively) but also subject to demand
